Route description
The Route starts from Borjomi, on the central road, goes downhill and crosses the pedestrian bridge, passes through the streets of the settlement of Papa and then follows the train tracks and makes its way to Petre fortress. The train track is active and you must be carefull ! From the train rails, the path goes up into the forest and soon we will approach Petre fortress.
The fortress is a monument of the early Middle Ages. It guarded the bridge and the road crossing Mtkvari from Likani to the historical villages of Papa and Nua. After the conquest of Tori by the Ottomans in the 16th century, Petre fortress was the Ottoman administrative center. The fortress consisted of a citadel and a lower courtyard connected to it. Between the walls of Petre fortress and it’s inside fortress, there are remains of various buildings, in inside – ruins of residential halls, pits, pitchers. The fortress is distinguished in some places by the walls of the earlier scale piles.
It is possible to return back by the same way.
