Javakheti Protected Areas

About

Established in 2011 they include Javakheti National Park, Bugdasheni, Khanchali, Madatapa, Sulda, and Kartsakhi Managed Reserves. The total area of the territory is 16,614 hectares. Javakheti Protected Areas include the Municipalities of Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda. The highest point of Javakheti is Mount Great Abuli, with a height of 3,300 meters above sea level. The Javakheti Plateau is the coldest place among settlements. It is characterized by a dry continental climate, with low average annual temperatures and frozen lakes in the winter. The Javakheti region is unique in the Caucasus region with sub-alpine meadows, mountain steppes, volcanic mountains and wetlands, which makes the region attractive for migrating birds.

It is possible to plan various types of hiking, horse-riding and bicycle tours too at the territory of Javakheti Protected Areas.
