Located in Southern Georgia, Samtskhe-Javakheti is one of the most important historical and cultural regions of the country. It’s altitude varies from 1,000 to 3,300 meters above sea level. It covers the territories of Samtskhe-Javakheti and the historical Tori-Borjomi provinces. The provinces of Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni, Aspindza, Akhalkalaki, Ninotsminda and Borjomi districts or municipalities make up the territory of the region. The city of Akhaltsikhe serves as the capital and administrative center.

The region’s major cities, Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe, are situated about 3 hours drive from Tbilisi, and a similar distance from the gateway airport near Kutaisi. The region is thus easily accessible from two of the country’s major tourism hubs.

The region is one of the most ethnically diverse in Georgia, where inhabitants representing different nationalities, religions, traditions, and ethnographic culture live side by side.

This region showcases a diverse landscape, culture, and climate. In most areas the summers are cool, and winters are cold and snowy, especially in Javakheti.
