What To See

Samtskhe-Javakheti is a relatively big and a remarkably diverse region in Georgia. There is something for everyone, no matter what you are expecting from your trip.

You can wander endlessly in beautiful small towns or visit ancient villages, and explore how people around here used to live thousands of years ago. The castles and churches here have so much history to tell and do not forget about the archeological sites as well! If you are done observing the earth, do not worry, the region has an observatory for you as well. Or if you are more of a nature person, head to Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park which actually is the largest national park in all of Georgia. Another mesmerizing place to visit is the Javakheti Protected Areas, which was established in 2011. It includes Javakheti National Park, Kartsakhi Managed Reserve, Sulda Managed Reserve, Khanchali Managed Reserve, Bugdasheni Managed Reserve and Madatapa Managed Reserve.

These areas are especially unique for birdwatchers. There are 140 species of nesting or migrating birds can be found in the National Park. Javakheti National Park is the only place in Georgia where there is a chance to see flamingos. There are many lakes on the Javakheti Plateau, including the biggest lake of Georgia – Paravani. Javakheti Plateau is the coldest place in winter in Georgia, where the Javakheti lakes are frozen temporarily during the winter period. The rich lakes have different species of fish which are ideal for amateur fishing.

And do not forget, the region also has skiing and wellness resorts that are well-known and popular, not only among Georgian people, but for travelers around the world as well.

So, basically, you can find everything here, you just name it!
