About

Abastumani resort has been a distinguished therapeutic bath resort in the South of Georgia since the XIX century. Abastumani is famous for its fresh air, healing waters, and sulfur baths. Its healing factors are due to its distinct climate and landscape and hosts a still operational center for lung disease. The forest covered Abastumani valley is of amazing beauty, which includes the Borjomi-Kharagauli protected area.

The foundation of the resort is linked to the Russian imperial family member Giorgi Romanov, who suffered from tuberculosis. It was because of Romanov that the therapeutic thermal waters bath, palace, and the Church of St. Alexander Nevsky, quite similar to the Zarzma Cathedral (VIII-IX century), were built. The resort also includes Abastumani Park, attracting visitors with its tall pine trees and their tops reaching high into the sky.
